Résumé : |
According to old traditional Indian wisdom and more specifically Ayurveda1, “we are what we eat”. In our Western civilization, guilt is strongly associated with food for various more or less rational reasons, ranging from serious health considerations to the fear of simply putting on weight. Yet perhaps unexpectedly now, there may be good news ahead for future mothers, who might find good scientific reasons to indulge themselves in …chocolate. It seems that, if eating chocolate – especially dark chocolate – is good to boost your morale, it might also prove effective to reduce the risks of preeclampsia in the bargain. In this issue, more seriously, we have chosen to focus on the impact of chocolate intake on Preeclampsia and Gestational Hypertension (GH). In other words the question is: does chocolate intake during pregnancy actually reduce the risks of preeclampsia and gestational hypertension? The answer points to yes but remains qualified of course. Let us have a close look at this article published in the journal Annals of Epidemiology, in August 2010, and whose authors are Audrey F. Saftlas, Elizabeth W. Triche, Hind Beydoun, Michael B. Bracken. The study of this abstract will provide us with a good insight into medical scientific methodology in English while keeping fit as a fiddle!
