The perception of Female sexuality had slowly evolved during our History. The 19th century was still very puritan and the moral’s rules were hard in Europe against Women who tried to live as they felt to be. The 20th century was the beginning of a real change. Maria Stopes (1880, 1958), a Scottish author, palaeobotanist and campaigner for women’s rights was one of the pioneer concerning family planning and female sexuality. An American biologist, Alfred Charles Kinsey (1894, 1956), founded in 1947 the “Institute for Sex Research”. And a gynaecologist and a psychologist, William Howell Masters (1915, 2001) and Virginia Eshelman Johnson (1925, -) were great researchers into the nature of Female sexuality, her sexual response and the possible disorders or dysfunctions. But Medicine has to continue research and studies to better understand Sexuality of women. A great challenge for the 21st century… |
